Paid $39.98 at J & R Music World. Best in class. While this radio is not for the serious SW listener, it is just right for the international traveler who is concerned with space and reception. And, at this price point if it is lost or stolen you’re only out $40. Sound on AM bands better than average…on FM also OK…does receive stereo with headphones…SW reception better than average, that is expected with a C Crane product…service also good, that too is expected with C Crane…size of the radio a bit large but OK…drawbacks….dial light a bit dim…and when you turn radio on with am band engaged you get a strange beep..but that’s tolerable..overall, don’t waste hundreds of dollars on a sony or grundig….most likely this C Crane radio will fill your needs at a very reasonable price point….I give it six stars

Purchased this radio with great expectations. However, unless you live in or very near to a city the reception is spotty (I live within 15 miles of a major city but this still isn’t close enough). Secondly, after listening for more than, say, 10 minutes the sound gets annoying. The clarity just isn’t there. Lastly, the volume is controlled by a button (rather than a dial). That would be okay, except the increase in sound from one button to another is too pronounced, so that it’s difficult (in my case, impossible) to get just the volume I want.
